The second option is to click on the image, go to darkroom, then in the hsitory stack on the left, click on the first option called (I think) Original image. There is an ‘apply’ button, whose action is as I expect. The first is as you have been told, select the image in lightable and click on the discard history.

If the "discard History" is not working, I guess it is because you have deleted the xmp and DT cannot work out how to get the original image back as it also has info in the database that does not match the xmp anymore. 1 I can apply styles OK in dt, but having done so I have decided that I don’t want that chosen style on some of the images to which I have applied it. Any edits will then start from this entry onwards Prior to darktable 3.4, the clipping highlighted any pixels that exceeded the maximum allowed value on any of the R,G,B channels, or that had been completely crushed to.

The clipping warning module is used to highlight those pixels that cannot be accurately represented in the output color space, either due to luminance or gamut clipping. if you use other programs to move, delete or change the image DT will get confused. The basic rules with most software programs is, always use the application to perform any actions on the objects, so if you want to move, change or delete the images, always use DT.
